Tips for Cleaning the Carpet

Cleaning the carpet can be an absolute nightmare! But how often do you actually do it? When a heart-stopping drop of red wine splashes across the fabric, we’re quick to be at hand with sponges, cleaners and clever tips, but not often are we so keen before disaster strikes. Giving your carpet a deep clean can actually completely transform the room, making flooring look cleaner, brighter and like new, which compliments the rest of your room to give it a completely fresh look and feel.

Here, we have a few top tips for cleaning your carpet; however you prefer to do it:

The natural way

If you have a particularly delicate carpet, you might want to be careful about which products you use when cleaning, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on cleanliness. Often, the simple and old-fashioned way of doing things is the best, bringing up fantastic results without any concern over damage, toxins or harsh chemicals.

It is recommended to start by sweeping and vacuuming your carpet to remove dust and to loosen the fibres ready for a deep clean. For a carpet cleaner, mix 1 cup hot water, another cup of vinegar and half a cup of baking soda, mix and transfer into a spray bottle. Spray all over your carpet, blot the excess the leave to dry.

For a super thorough clean and fresh smelling home, sprinkle simple baking soda onto your carpet, and let it work its infamous magic by ridding your home of odour and smells. For an interesting twist add a few drops of your favourite essential oil for a fragrant scent. Simply leave for roughly 15 minutes then vac away. Your carpet will not only look and feel cleaner and newer, but smell fresh and inviting, too.

The technological way

Of course, if you’re carpet is riddled with stains and you’ve forgotten the original shade you bought it in, or perhaps you’ve recently moved home and would like to completely steam clean the carpet that’s been left, the power of technology is a great aide. Store bought chemicals and cleaners are great for an everyday clean, but when you need something a little more, it’s best to get a machine to do the hard work for you.

Local supermarkets, hard ware stores and the internet are awash with carpet cleaning machines which are powerful at ridding your home of dirt, completely cleaning stained carpets and bringing rugs up looking like new. The machines are quick and effortless and can be used all over your house. The brilliant news is these cumbersome cleaners can be rented for a day or two, giving you all the benefits of a cleaner without the price tag or having to worry about where to store it.

The professional way

If creating your own lotions and potions doesn’t appeal to you and renting a carpet cleaner just sounds like hard work, then you should thank your lucky stars that there are people who are adept at getting grubby carpets looking brand new in almost no time at all. Perhaps you’ve tried the above techniques and still need a little bit more. Well, you should hire a professional cleaner to come to your home and transform your flooring. No longer are professional cleaners unaffordable, you can easily find a small company, or individual, who is skilled at providing such a service, and they can work their magic whilst you’re at work, allowing you to come home to a brilliant looking carpet without doing any of the hard work.
