Cleaning Your Carpet

Fitting a new carpet into a room makes such an impact. It can instantly make the room look brighter, fresher and cosier and can really finish off a carefully decorated room. However, over time and countless footsteps, a carpet suffers quickly from wear and tear leaving your once fluffy carpet looking dull and less luxurious. There are ways to prolong the life of a carpet though and it simply comes down to regularly cleaning and maintenance with a thorough deep cleaning once or twice year, depending on the colour and how whether you have pets and children. To keep the carpet in good condition, it should be regularly hoovered to pick up bits of dirt and specks of dust. Any stains can be removed with carpet stain remover, although it is advisable to read carefully the instructions beforehand to ensure that you use it correctly and avoid damaging your carpet. How often you hoover depends on the colour of your carpet and how much use it supports. For example, the carpet in the guest room may have less people or animals walking over it than say the carpet in the living room or the hallway. These areas will need extra attention and care and should be cleaned regularly.Even with these best intentions though, it is vital to deep clean your carpet at least once a year, more if it is a light carpet. When you deep clean, it restores life back into the carpet, making it appear brand new. It also increases the lifespan of the carpet, which saves you money in the long term by avoiding an early replacement. Thorough deep cleaning gives you two options: you can either do it yourself or you can hire a professional cleaner. If you only need to clean the carpet once a year, it may be worth hiring a cleaning agency as it saves you the cost of buying your own equipment. The advantage with using professional cleaners is that they have a lot of experience and the right set of tools to do the job well. By using a reputable company, you can guarantee that your carpet will come out looking spotless and as good as new. However, if you intend to deep clean your carpet twice or more times a year, it may be cheaper to buy the equipment and do it yourself. There are two ways of cleaning your carpet and they are water extraction method and dry extraction method. The two will be explained in just a moment. If doing it yourself, the first thing you need to do is check that the dye in your carpet will not bleed with the carpet cleaner. Test this by adding a bit of stain remover to a small piece of carpet hidden from view, wait about an hour, then dab it with a white cloth. If the cloth is stained, then try again with a different stain remover until you find one that works with your carpet. The water extraction method is also called stain cleaner and works by inserting a solution into the carpet before removing the dirty liquid back out into the machine again. The key to this method is to not let your carpet get too wet and make sure it can dry after to avoid mould or floor damage. The other method is the dry extraction with works with a dry absorbent on the carpet with is then hoovered into the machine. This method is better than the wet extraction but it tends to be more expensive to buy the equipment. Shop around to compare prices between hiring a pro or buying the equipment.
