Keep the Water Flowing Smoothly - Tips on Cleaning Clogged Drains
Published on Wednesday, 02 February 2011
Suppose your drain is clogged, how are you going to deal with it? If you are like many people, you'll probably look under the sink and pull out some sort of de-clogging solution to clear the clog. While this may work out just fine, there is something better you can do than be contented on a temporary solution. Check out these cleaning tips to keep your water flowing smoothly down the drain.
Identify the cause of the clog
There are many different ways of handling different types of clogs. For instance, if you have learned that the cause of the clog is strands of hair, a drain stick with barbs on the side may do the trick. But there is no guarantee that this tool can also work on other clogs, which brings me to the next tip:
Get the basic cleaning tools
It can be difficult to repair clogs without the basic tools. Hence, make sure you have a number of tools which you can use in case of emergency. Aside from the drain stick, you might also want to purchase wet/dry vacuum and a plunger.
Use natural cleaners
Go easy with chemical de-clogging solutions as they are hazardous to your health. Natural cleaning solutions such as the vinegar and lemon will do just fine in eliminating build-ups at the side of the drain.
This pointer is only intended for individuals who have a background in home repairs. It is easier to clean and scrub the inside part of the drain if it is dissembled. A strong vinegar-lemon solution combined with toothbrush scrubbing leaves drain spotless and clog-free. Be sure you know how to put them back together before dismantling the pipes.
